Introduction to the La Source Institute

The La Source Institute, a private body within the La Source University of Health Sciences, contributes to the development and dissemination of knowledge in nursing. Through its work, it supports pedagogical innovation, scientific collaboration and the promotion of historical heritage. It enhances the institution’s visibility both in Switzerland and internationally.

Developing and sharing knowledge

The Institut La Source regularly organises seminars and conferences aimed at supporting developments in healthcare practice. These events are designed to promote the exchange of knowledge, keep participants’ knowledge up to date and broaden their professional horizons.

These include, in particular, the CINQ À SEPT organised by theInstitute, gatherings structured in three parts (lecture, cultural interlude, networking session) enabling participants to discuss health-related topics, discover research findings or innovative approaches, whilst forging links between healthcare professionals, teaching staff and students.

Co-ordinating an international nursing network

The Institute is a co-founder of several renowned organisations, such as:

The International Secretariat of Nurses from the French-speaking World (SIDIIEF)

As the European branch and a founding member of SIDIIEF, the Institut La Source contributes to an international nursing network and plays an active role in the SIDIIEF World Congress, a leading event dedicated to the key challenges facing the profession and developments in healthcare systems.
The University Institute for Training and Research in Healthcare (IUFRS)

The University Institute for Training and Research in Healthcare (IUFRS)

Established in 2007, the IUFRS is the result of a collaborative initiative bringing together several leading institutions in French-speaking Switzerland, including the La Source Foundation, alongside the University of Lausanne (UNIL), the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland (HES-SO), the University of Geneva (UNIGE), the HUG and the Swiss Nurses’ Association.
The Foundation for Research in Healthcare (FORESO)

The Foundation for Research in Healthcare (FORESO)

Established in June 1999, the Foundation for Healthcare Research (FRESo) brings together key players in the social and healthcare sector, including the La Source Foundation, alongside the Swiss Red Cross, the CHUV (formerly the Cantonal Hospitals) and the University of Lausanne.

Promoting pedagogical and clinical innovation

The Institute encourages and supports initiatives aimed at developing healthcare practices and teaching methods.

It encourages initiatives that explore new learning methods, evidence-based teaching approaches, as well as experimental projects and the implementation of innovative tools.

This mission is fully in line with the history of La Source, which is recognised for its pioneering and visionary role in nursing education and its constant openness to professional, technical and societal developments.

Promoting our heritage

The La Source Institute contributes directly to the preservation, documentation and promotion of the rich heritage collected since 1859.

Working closely with the archives of the La Source Foundation and the library (CEDOC), it supports the conservation and dissemination of an exceptional collection comprising:

  • Historical documents

  • Iconographic collections

  • Objects related to nursing

  • Educational and administrative archives

This mission helps to keep the institutional memory alive, to document the history of nursing and to offer privileged access to a unique heritage intended for both research and cultural outreach.

A network of collaborations dedicated to knowledge

The La Source Institute is part of an active network of academic and professional collaborations in Switzerland and internationally. It contributes to joint projects, the sharing of expertise and key events in the field of healthcare.

It plays a key role in the production and dissemination of knowledge in nursing sciences: supporting specialist publications, promoting academic work and highlighting applied research projects led by La Source.

This mission is central: it broadens access to knowledge, supports the continuous professional development of nursing professionals and contributes directly to the provision of reliable and rigorous information for professional and academic communities.
